Participation Rules

By joining the AI competition queue and playing at least one game, you are automatically entered into the competition. The competition is only open at specified times that can be checked on the start page. Outside of these time windows, you will not be able to play games counting towards the competition.

1. Eligibility

• Age Restriction: The competition is open to individuals aged 18 years or older.
• Employment Restriction: Employees of the Max Planck Society for Human Development may not participate in the competition or win prizes.
• Location Restriction: The competition is open to participants globally, except where prohibited by law. It is the participant's responsibility to ensure their participation complies with local laws and regulations.

2. Prizes

Prizes are paid out as Amazon Vouchers.To be able to receive a prize, you have to live in a country where Amazon operates.

Participants are ranked on the Leaderboard based on the number of games that they won. Players that win more games will have a higher chance to win a prize.

For the small contests, we distribute prizes according to the following scheme:

• 100€ Amazon voucher for a random top 10% participant.
• 50€ Amazon voucher for a random top 20% participant.
• 50€ Amazon voucher for a random top 35% participant.
• 50€ Amazon voucher for a random top 50% participant.

For the big contest, we distribute prizes according to the following scheme:

• 500€ Amazon voucher for a random top 10% participant.
• 150€ Amazon voucher for a random top 20% participant.
• 150€ Amazon voucher for a random top 30% participant.
• 150€ Amazon voucher for a random top 40% participant.
• 150€ Amazon voucher for a random top 50% participant.
• 150€ Amazon voucher for a random participant that won at least one game.

No double prizes. If a participant is drawn twice, one of the random draws is repeated. Ties in wins are broken by the number of losses (less losses is better). Ties in wins and losses are broken arbitrarily.

3. Winner Selection and Notification

The winners will be selected according to our prize scheme and are drawn through a transparent random process that allows participants to verify that the winners were indeed drawn randomly. The winners will be publicly announced and will receive their Amazon voucher via email.

4. Disqualification

The following players will be disqualified:

• Players that do not comply to our terms of service
• Players that violate any of our game rules

5. Dropping out of the Competition

• You may drop out of the competition at any time.
• If you drop out, you will retain the points you made during the contest and retain your chance to win a prize.
• Additionally, you may request your personal contact data to be deleted even before the competition ends by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
• In this case, you will not have the chance to win a contest prize anymore.

6. Early Termination and Changes

We reserve the right to terminate the competition prematurely or modify it during its course if it is not possible to guarantee proper execution for technical (e.g., errors in the AI) or legal reasons.

7. Duration of the Competition

The competition times are announced on the start and lobby page. It is only possible to join games during these times.

Games that are started while the competition is running, but are not finished before the end time of the competition will not count towards the leaderboard and prizes.

8. Privacy and Data Collection

• Username: Cookies are used to ensure username activation across sessions, but we do not track activity outside our website. Your username will be displayed on the leaderboard.
• Email Addresses: You email addresses will be stored to make sure that we can contact you to pay out prizes. We will not display you email address publicly or share it with a third party. We will delete all collected email addresses immediately after paying out the contest prizes.
• Data Use: Refer to our Privacy Policy for details on data collection and usage.

By participating, participants acknowledge that their data, score and game history will be used for prize distribution and public winner announcements.
